April 16th (or the first business day after Tax Day in the US) is National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day. (We know you stayed up all night to hit that deadline, so now you can stay in your jammies and head off to work.)

The first National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day was established in 2002 by Pajamagram in Burlington, Vermont. It was their first year in business, and they came up with this amazing idea to get attention quickly. They sell pajamas for women, men, children, and pets, in flannel, fleece, and cotton, with a focus on gifting – hence the “telegram” play on words.

Why not send a pajamagram to whoever did your taxes? Even if it was you!

I don’t know how many PJs they sold the first year, but they’re still going strong, and even have another interesting shop, Pajamajeans, with denim-style “shape keeping fabric” that looks great. They even have belt loops and pockets. (No, I’m not affiliated with them. Just sayin’.)

How to celebrate Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day.

  • Wear your 2 piece pajamas so they look more like a business suit. (Definitely no negligees.)
  • Don’t forget matching slippers.
  • Pajama Day is also permission to have donuts & coffee all day, right?
  • For further comfort bring your favorite blankie. (Faux mink is fine.)
  • Or, bring enough blankets to turn your cubicle into a blanket tent.
  • Oh, if everyone brings blankets & flat sheets, you can create a tent city. In that case, you also need large cushions for seating and fairy lights to hang inside.
  • Set up a nap time. (Everyone will need one after getting their taxes done.)
  • Have a pillow fight.
  • Play tug-of-war with a sheet.
